Our contest theme, "In Africa: An Album of Fashion in Nigeria," invites photographers to capture these narratives through their unique lens.

The aim of this activity is clear, and it is to provide photographers with an opportunity to build a portfolio and also receive cash prizes to support their careers.

How the Contest Works

1. Timeline and Phases

The contest unfolds over a carefully planned three-week period.

2. Announcement and Promotion Phase (July 21st - 26th):

We're building excitement and ensuring everyone understands the rules and expectations. This is your time to start planning your perfect shot.

3. Submission Window (July 27th - August 5th):

The creative gates are open! Photographers have ten full days to capture, edit, and submit their entries.

4. Judging Period (August 6th - 10th):

Our expert panel of judges will carefully evaluate each submission based on our comprehensive criteria.

5. Winner Announcement (August 11th):

The moment everyone's been waiting for. We'll reveal our grand winner and celebrate their achievement.

6. Participation Requirements

To ensure fairness and community building, we have specific eligibility requirements. Participants must follow our official social media handles across all platforms. This ensures that winners are genuinely part of our community ecosystem.

7. Submission Process Made Simple

Participants post their entries on Instagram and X using the hashtag #GearUpFashionAlbum2025, ensuring maximum visibility and community engagement. Each post must tag GearUp and include a thoughtful caption explaining the story behind their fashion photograph.

Additionally, we require a backup submission through our Google Form, capturing essential details like social media handles, contact information, and explicit consent for reposting. This dual approach ensures we don't miss any entries while maintaining proper documentation.

Ensuring Quality and Fairness

1. Strict Guidelines for Integrity

We've implemented comprehensive rules to maintain the contest's integrity. Each participant may submit only one entry, and all photographs must be original work; no AI-generated images or stolen content will be tolerated. The fashion and style elements must be central to the image, aligning clearly with our Nigerian fashion theme.

To ensure unbiased judging, we prohibit watermarks or logos on submissions. All entries must meet our strict deadline, with late submissions automatically disqualified to maintain fairness for all participants.

2. Professional Judging Standards

Unlike contests that rely solely on public voting, our panel of 2-4 expert judges, including fashion designers, photographers, and stylists, will evaluate entries based on specific criteria. This professional approach ensures that creativity and the relevance to the theme determine the winner, not just social media popularity.

Our judging criteria weight creativity and originality at 30%, theme relevance at 25%, visual composition at 25%, and storytelling through captions at 20%.
