GearUp Is Live: A New Era for African Creators
After months of building, testing, and launching, we're excited to finally say:
GearUp is officially live.
Built for creators across Africa, GearUp is a platform where you can rent the gear you need and list the gear you own, turning your tools into income and helping fellow creatives get their hands on the equipment that brings ideas to life.
No more calling five people to find a light stand.
No more sitting on expensive gear that only gets used once a month.
No more being stuck because you don’t have what you need.
GearUp is here to change that.
We aren’t just a platform for buying and renting gear but a peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplace specifically for African creators to rent, buy, and sell gear, studio spaces, and professional courses. We facilitate transactions between media houses and creators in Africa, offering secure escrow payments and ID-verified sellers. We also provide professional courses, further supporting the African creative ecosystem.
Why We Built GearUp
Access to gear has always been a barrier. Whether you're shooting a music video, documenting a wedding, or launching a YouTube series, finding reliable equipment shouldn’t slow you down.
We built GearUp to solve this. It’s a peer-to-peer platform where creators can help each other win. You can list your gear for others to rent or browse gear near you when you’re in a tight spot.
It’s simple. It’s safe. And it's just getting started.
Live Features You Can Use Right Now
These are the features that are already live on GearUp:
1. The Ability to Rent, Buy, and Sell Gear - Add your gear, set a rental price, and share it with the creative community.
2. Renting of Studio Spaces Browse Rentals - Need something for a shoot? Explore what’s available near you.
3. Courses - You can sell and buy online courses on the platform.
The platform is live, functional, and ready for users to explore.
Powered By The Stellar Network
GearUp is built on the Stellar blockchain enabling fast, secure, and transparent transactions across our platform. By leveraging Stellar's decentralized infrastructure, we ensure efficient payment processing, reliable escrow services, and verifiable transaction records, laying the groundwork for a scalable, trust-driven ecosystem tailored to Africa’s creative economy.
What’s Coming Next
We're keeping it real with this launch, no overpromising. But here’s what’s on the roadmap:
We're building a dedicated space for creatives to get discovered, get hired, and get paid.
Soon, you’ll be able to do more than just rent or list gear. You’ll be able to:
• Create a professional profile that showcases who you are and what you do
• Add your portfolio – Upload your past projects, photos, videos, or audio work to show your creative strengths
• Highlight your skills and experience – Let potential clients know exactly what services you offer
• Set your pricing – Define your rates clearly so there's no back-and-forth on value
• Accept payments – Clients will be able to book and pay you directly through the platform
This feature is being built to help creatives across Africa move from hustling for gigs to having a steady, visible, and professional presence.
Imagine someone lands on your profile, sees your work, loves it, and books you immediately. No endless DMs. No chasing payments. Just clean, direct business between creatives and clients.
GearUp is here to make that happen.
What This Means for Creators
This launch is more than a website going live, it’s a step toward solving a real challenge many African creatives face every day.
You don’t need to have the biggest production house. You don’t need to buy every new tool. You just need access, and GearUp is here to provide it.
It’s also a chance to turn your existing gear into a revenue stream. Your camera, mic, or drones might be helping someone shoot their first short film this weekend. And you get paid.
Try It Out
If you’re curious, now’s the best time to jump in.
Set up a profile. List one item. Or just take a look around.
Your Gear, Your Listing, Your Money.
Your gear should be working for you even when you’re not using it.
